About Us

About Us

Transforming healthcare data into actionable insights.

The Kenya Health Management Information Systems (KeHMIS) was established with the goal of revolutionizing health data management in Kenya. Over the years, we have grown and evolved, adopting cutting-edge technologies and best practices to ensure that our solutions meet the needs of all stakeholders in the healthcare sector. KeHMIS has been at the forefront of transforming healthcare through technology, driving improvements in patient care, and contributing to the sustainability and effectiveness of health systems across Africa. Our main goal is to support Ministries of Health, Local Health Management Teams, and Service Delivery Partners in developing and maintaining health information systems innovations in low- and middle-income countries.

Our Journey:

The project has been in existence since 2011 and has been implemented in three phases.

The first phase (KeHMIS I) was implemented between 2011 and 2016 and was geared towards ensuring the HIV data collection paper records were digitized, the deployment of HIS to HIV Clinics and Legacy Data Migration was achieved.

The second phase of the project (KeHMIS II) was implemented between 2016 and 2021 and sought to extend HIS coverage to cover the spectrum of HIV/AIDS, Scale-up of EMR sites & their use towards optimal data availability.

The third phase (KeHMIS III) commenced in Oct 2021 and is expected to continue until September 2026. This phase seeks to improve HIS towards the delivery of Patient-Centered Care and improve data demand and use for individual-level data.

Our Impact:

Our work, which began in 2011, has been carried out in three distinct phases. The initial phase, known as KeHMIS I, took place from 2011 to 2016. Its primary focus was on digitizing paper records of HIV data collection, deploying Health Information Systems (HIS) to HIV clinics, and accomplishing Legacy Data Migration.

The subsequent phase, KeHMIS II, spanned from 2016 to 2021. This phase aimed to broaden the HIS coverage to encompass the full range of HIV/AIDS, as well as to expand the number of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) sites and their utilization for optimal data availability.

Our current phase, KeHMIS III, started in October 2021 and is projected to last until September 2026. The objective of this phase is to enhance the HIS for the provision of Patient-Centered Care and to boost the demand and usage of individual-level data.
